Using Microsoft Word

Some Interesting Things To Do With Text

This tutorial will briefly show you more advanced page and text formatting techniques.

Typing Documents With Different Formats

Remember back in Lesson 3 we looked at page setup techniques?

We Selected File> Page Setup from the Menu Bar, and clicked the Margins tab.

The Pages section allows you to choose what kind of document you want to create. Most of the time you will use "Normal." This will create a standard document.

If you are typing some kind of booklet you will want to choose "Book Fold." (Do this by clicking the downward arrow.) This will split the page in half, and allow you to create a format you see in most books. There are also other options you can explore on this menu.

Drop Caps

A Drop Cap is a large letter that begins a paragraph and drops through several lines of text as shown below. (Remember your old story books?)

To add a drop cap follow these steps:

1- Highlight the letter that will be dropped.

2- Select Format> Drop Cap from the Menu bar.

3- The Drop Cap dialog box allows you to select the position of the drop cap, the font, the number of lines to drop, and the distance from the body text.

4- Click OK when all selections have been made.

Helpful Hint: To modify a drop cap, select Format> Drop Cap again to change the attributes, or click on the letter and use the handles to move and resize the letter.
