5: Working With Text Part 2

Cutting Text- Moving text from one place to another.

Sometimes you will want to move text from one place to another. You can do this by "Cutting" text.

1- Highlight the text you want to move.

2- Click the Cut button on the Standard tool bar. Cut button
or
Select Edit> Cut from the Menu bar.

Helpful Hint: You can also highlight the text you want to move, click the selection with the mouse, drag the selection to the new location, and release the mouse button.

Copying Text

1- To copy text, first highlight the text you want to move.

2- Click the Copy button on the Standard tool bar. Copy button
or
Select Edit> Copy from the Menu bar.

Helpful Hint: The difference between Cut and Copy is this: Cut will completely remove text from one place to be put somewhere else. Copy will leave your "copied" text where it is, then you can put your copied text somewhere else.

Pasting Text

Once you have Cut or Copied text you will want to put it somewhere, to do this:

1- Move the cursor to the location you want to move the text to and click there.

2- Click the Paste button on the Standard tool bar. Paste button
or
Select Edit> Paste from the Menu bar.

I LOVE Cut, Copy, and Paste because it can save you an awful lot of typing!

Drop Caps

A drop cap is a large letter that begins a paragraph and drops through several lines of text as shown below. This is a particularly nice effect if you are typing a poem.

1- Highlight the letter you would like to use for your drop cap. 2- Then on the Standard toolbar click Format>Drop Cap.

The Drop Cap dialog box allows you to select the position of the drop cap, the font, the number of lines to drop, and the distance from the body text.

Here you can select a different font, how many lines you want the letter to drop (how big the letter will be), and how far away it should be from the text. Below you can see text with a drop cap.
